Lone Pine Brewing Company in Portland Maine’s East End neighborhood is about as cool as a microbrewery can get. It’s the sort of place you roll into, and even if you don’t know anyone, pretty soon you find out that you do. Water bowls for the dog, games for the kids, food for the boys, all wrapped up in a nice airy space just off the Back Cove.
The beer leans heavily toward New England style IPA and pales, but unlike the all-too-common juice bombs, it’s got enough bitterness and character to place it a notch above the fray. The food cart features progressive, trendy offerings with a nice smack of flavor to keep pace with the brewery’s offerings.
Location lends itself to a nice little brewtour in combination with better-known Oxbow Blending and Rising Tide; both are about a half mile from Lone Pine. You can hoof it in a fairly easy mile-and-a-half triangle. And while all three are hip new breweries housed in converted industrial spaces, each has its own unique vibe and brew style….this is a must-do for area brew fans.
